Huntington Reports 1Q Net Income of $149.1M
Thursday, April 17, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Huntington Bancshares Inc., parent of Huntington National Bank, Wednesday reported first quarter net income of $149.1 million, or 17 cents a share.
This compares to net income the preceding quarter of $158.2 million, or 18 cents a share, and first-quarter 2013 net income of $153.3 million, or 17 cents a share.
Pa. Table Games Up in March, Slots Down
Thursday, April 17, 2014HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Revenue from the play of table games at casinos in the commonwealth rose 1% during March, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday. This produced the highest level of revenue, $67.9 million, since the introduction of this form of gambling in July 2010.
Total revenue from table games and slot machines, however, dropped 4.2% to $284,148,717 year over year. Officials attribute the drop to a 5.7% decrease in slot machine revenue last month.
Magazine Names Chevy Cruze Diesel Car of Year

Johnson's Campaign Boasts of $961K Warchest
Wednesday, April 16, 2014MARIETTA, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio, reported he raised more than $380,000 for the quarter ended March 31, including more than $228,000 from individual donors. The Republican incumbent’s fundraising brings his total cash on hand for the campaign to $961,531.
Handel’s Named 'Champion for Our Valley’s Children'

$800M Natural Gas Plant Proposed for Lordstown
Wednesday, April 16, 2014LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- A 57-acre plot in this village is the perfect place to construct an $800 million power generation plant because it sits near an "electrical highway" of power lines that connect Cleveland and Pittsburgh, says the executive of a Boston-area energy company.
Clean Energy Future LLC, formed in 2011 and based in Manchester, Mass., is looking to build a natural-gas-fueled power plant at 1107 Carson Salt Springs Road, reports its president, Bill Siderewicz.
Ohio OKs STEM Academy for Mahoning County
Wednesday, April 16, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The Mahoning County Educational Service Center has obtained official approval to open a science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, academy that would serve the region.
The center obtained one of seven STEM academy designations awarded by the Ohio STEM Commission this week, says its superintendent, Ron Iarussi.
"We're a year away, so we have a full year to plan," he says.
Chevy 'Cruzes' into 2015 at New York Auto Show
Wednesday, April 16, 2014DETROIT -- General Motors Co. says the 2015 updated Chevrolet Cruze will make its debut during the New York International Auto Show this week in Manhattan.
The Cruze, which is manufactured at GM's Lordstown Complex, is among the automaker's hottest-selling vehicles. Last month, the Cruze witnessed strong sales, and last year, saw sales rise nearly 23%.
