Group Launches 'Listening Project' on Fracking
Tuesday, April 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Communities United for Responsible Energy, or Cure, plans to conduct a "listening project" this spring and summer to survey the effects of oil and gas exploration in Columbiana and Carroll counties.
The group, in conjunction with FracTracker Alliance, The Ohio Environmental Council, and Locals 809 and 1015 of the Laborers Union, plans to survey more than 1,000 residents of Columbiana and Carroll counties and learn how hydraulic fracturing has affected their lives.
TourismOhio Extends 2014 Media Campaign
Tuesday, April 15, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- TourismOhio is launching its ad campaign, “Too Much Fun for Just One Day” earlier than ever before for the spring-summer travel season, the state tourism department announced Monday. This year’s media campaign. launched yesterday, will run a month longer as well -- through the end of July.
TourismOhio has a new pilot funding model based on revenue generated from Ohio tourism industries. With twice the funding as previous years, additional spending can be conducted to help tell the Ohio story, says Mary L. Cusick, chief of TourismOhio.

Local Auto Dealers Report Better Sales in March
Monday, April 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --Sales for new cars and trucks improved 4.5% for auto dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in March compared to the same period last year, according to the latest report from the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
ADEAO's monthly survey shows that area showrooms sold 2,694 new vehicles last month compared to 2,577 a year earlier.
Youngstowners Pay Highest Rates for Auto Insurance

The $936, or $57-a-month figure is 36.6% above the state average.

Monday, April 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- In her room in the intensive care unit following surgery, Brenda Elsagher knew her husband, Bahgat, would say the right thing to her.
Seeing the multitude of tubes and wires hanging to her, he leaned over and told her she looked like the back of his stereo.
“It was so goofy and ridiculous, it made me laugh out loud,” she recalls. “So even though I was in the middle of all that pain, I laughed and I felt good for that second. I felt I’ll be OK.”

Consumers Ready for Bunnies, Eggs and Jellybeans
Monday, April 14, 2014WASHINGTON – Ready for sunshine, chocolate eggs and jellybeans, consumers are expected to spend an average of $137.46 each on apparel, food, candy and gifts this Easter season. Total spending is expected to reach $15.9 billion.
The per-person average is down slightly from the $145.13 consumers spent last year, according to the National Retail Federation's Easter Spending Survey.
