Tressel Suggests Transition Plan for University of Akron
Wednesday, April 23, 2014AKRON, Ohio -- The University of Akron's Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that Jim Tressel is one of three finalists to replace Luis Proenza, who is retiring July 1. Tressel currently serves as UA's executive vice president for student success, and has also applied to become the next president of Youngstown State University.
Ohio BWC Staff Proposes 6.3% Cut in Rates
Wednesday, April 23, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation staff Tuesday proposed that the agency board of directors approve a 6.3% reduction in base rates beginning July 1.
If the directors accept the recommendation May 22, the 6.3% reduction would result in an overall decrease of $91 million in premiums collected compared present rates. May 22 is the date of their next regularly scheduled meeting.
YBI Incorporates Environmental Awareness into Campus

Foreclosures Drop in Youngstown, Warren, Boardman Area
Wednesday, April 23, 2014IRVINE, Calif. -- Foreclosure rates in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman were lower in February compared to February 2013, CoreLogic reported Tuesday.
The rate among outstanding mortgage loans was 2.92%, a decrease of 1.38% compared to February 2013.
Foreclosure activity in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman was higher than the national foreclosure rate, which was 1.93% for February, according to the most recent data from CoreLogic.
First Niles Reports 1Q Net Income of $49,000
Wednesday, April 23, 2014NILES, Ohio -- First Niles Financial Inc., holding company of Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles, Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $49,000, or four cents a share.
This compares to a net loss of $57,000 for the same period a year ago, or five cents a share.
Apply for Leadership Mahoning Valley By May 1

The program was created to identify individuals with a variety of backgrounds and experiences who demonstrate leadership talent and community commitment. It provides adult community leaders with an overview of the Mahoning Valley, an opportunity to better understand of key community issues and the potential to develop effective working relationships with other civic leaders, the chamber says.
Youngstown Unemployment Rate Shows Steep Decline
Tuesday, April 22, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown’s unemployment rate in March was down nearly two full percentage points from a year earlier, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported today.
The unemployment rate in Youngstown last month was 8.3%, down from 10.2% in March 2013 and nearly a full point from February’s 9.1% rate. Warren’s March unemployment rate was 7.6%, down more than a point from 8.8% in March 2013 and from 8.2% in February.
AMP Sparks Strategies for Advanced Manufacturing
