VLTs Arrive for Installation at Hollywood Gaming
Tuesday, July 01, 2014AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Penn National Gaming Inc. plans to announce an opening date soon for its Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course here.
The $250 million racetrack, dining and gaming facility took delivery Monday on the first 24 of the 850 video lottery terminals that will operate once it opens, sometime this fall.
“We don’t have a specific date for that announcement yet,” Penn National spokesman Bob Tenenbaum said. “It’s dependent primarily on construction milestones, since we’ve already received our temporary VLT license from the [Ohio] Lottery Commission.”
Charter One Offices to Be Branded as Citizens Bank
Tuesday, July 01, 2014PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Citizens Financial Group Inc. will rebrand more than 200 Charter One branches in Michigan and Ohio as Citizens Bank by mid-year 2015, creating a consistent Citizens Bank presence across the company’s 11-state retail footprint. the company announced Monday.
The company already operates as Citizens Bank in the other nine states where it has branches.
There are four Charter One branches in the Mahoning Valley: in Boardman, Austintown, Girard and Liberty.
Farmers Bank Employees Devote July to Philanthropy
Tuesday, July 01, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Bank has not one, but several, philanthropic campaigns that begin today and run through July, Kevin Helmick, president and CEO, announced Monday.
First, the bank is asking its customers to help infants throughout the Mahoning Valley by sponsoring “The Farmers Family Diaper Drop: A Cause You Can Get Behind.” The bank is encouraging its customers to drop off packages of diapers in any size at their nearby Farmers branch office.
'25 Under 35' Nomination Deadline Is Aug. 15

Pending Home Sales in Ohio on the Upswing
Tuesday, July 01, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of single-family homes and condominiums put under agreement in May in Ohio rose from the level posted a month earlier as well as compared to the same period a year ago. The May Pending Home Sales Index of 147.8, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, increased 4% from May of last year.
Activity jumped 9% from the April level, which was the fourth consecutive month-over-month gain in contract signings, reports the Ohio Association of Realtors.
General Motors Co. to Pay Millions in Compensation
Monday, June 30, 2014WASHINGTON, D.C. -- General Motors Co. is likely to pay millions of dollars to compensate family members of those killed in car accidents caused by faulty ignition switches in some of its vehicles, according to plan announced this morning.
Kenneth R, Feinberg, a compensation specialist hired by GM who also directed the 9/11 fund, said today that the priority of the program is to compensate those families who lost loved ones or those who have suffered catastrophic injuries such as severe burns, paralysis or amputations as a result of the accident.
Grove City Grads Put Robots in the Pipelines
Monday, June 30, 2014HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Jake Loosararian, 23, breaks into a grin as he imagines the future. In it, the stockpile of robots he’s designed and built has gone from one to more than a half dozen that can be deployed at a moment’s notice.
It sounds the like the origin story of a comic book supervillain but it could soon be a reality. While Loosararian’s goals are nowhere nearly as ambitious as world domination, they aren’t far off. He wants to change the energy industry the world over.
“It sounds fantastical,” he says, “but that’s why we’re designing these robots.”
YSU Students Present Papers at Symposium
