Hale Steps Down as Winner Aviation President
Wednesday, July 02, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Rick Hale is stepping down as president of Winner Aviation Corp. effective immediately, the company announced today. Neil Gallagher, formerly vice president of maintenance, will take over as president, while Hale stays on as CEO and assumes a new role as chairman.
Winner Aviation is the fixed-base operator serving Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Tressels Greet Those Who Came to Welcome Them
Wednesday, July 02, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- When Jim and Ellen Tressel opened the doors to Pollock House at 7 a.m. Tuesday, two members of the university staff were waiting to greet them.
So began Jim Tressel’s first official day as president of Youngstown State University, hosting an open house and breakfast reception at his residence. It was followed at midday with a picnic lunch for 80 students and a late afternoon reception for the boards that govern or support the university -- such as the YSU trustees, alumni society, YSU Foundation and Penguin Club.
$150,000 State Grant to Help Train 40 Welders
Wednesday, July 02, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- A $150,000 state development grant would provide funding necessary to train 40 new welders through the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 396's apprenticeship program over the next two years, officials announced Tuesday.
The grant was made available through the Governor's Office of Appalachia, and is matched by Local 396's joint apprenticeship program.
Flynn's Tire Group Enlists in Army PaYS Program
Wednesday, July 02, 2014WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. --– Flynn’s Tire Group officially enlisted Tuesday in the U.S. Army’s Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program, thereby guaranteeing job interviews and potential employment to soldiers ending their tour of duty and ROTC cadets.
The formal signing of the partnership followed a patriotic recognition ceremony staged by members of the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion & New Castle Recruiting Co.
Initiative Committee Trims Grant, Hears Applicants
Wednesday, July 02, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Initiative Committee met Tuesday morning for what could be the last time for a while, at least until it can come up with new or alternative funding.
The committee that oversees the economic development program reduced the previously awarded grant to one company because the enterprise reduced the scope of its project. The Initiative Committee also heard proposals for funding three additional projects and a façade application. However, because of the lack of funds reported at the committee’s June 5 meeting, no action was taken on any application.
