Employment in Skilled Trades Drops
Tuesday, July 08, 2014WASHINGTON -- Nearly 1.4 million specialty trade (or subcontractor) employees left the industry between 2006 to 2011, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, a trend the National Association of Homebuilders finds alarming. Specialty trades are essential to both the residential and commercial construction industries, the association says.
Despite the drop in the number of specialty trade employees, annual statistics for nonemployer firms (one-person firms) have been much less volatile during the same period, association figures show.

Monday, July 07, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- The Warren and Trumbull County Community Improvement Corp. is partnering with CenturyLink to establish a regional training facility at 220 S. Park Ave.
The training center, located in CenturyLink’s facility downtown, will bring a minimum of 100 CenturyLink employees from the Midwest for training activities each year. Training to be conducted at the center will include multi-day sessions focused on cable splicing and installation and high-speed Internet and fiber training.
Insurance Agent Fee Reduction Could Save $11.3M
Monday, July 07, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A reduction in the fee insurance companies pay to appoint insurance agents is projected to result in $11.3 million in reduced costs each year. An amended rule took effect in Ohio June 30 that reduces the agent appointment fee 25%, to $15 from $20.
“Lowering the cost of doing business in Ohio benefits consumers and further strengthens Ohio’s vibrant insurance market,” said Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, also director of the Ohio Department of Insurance, in a prepared statement.

Celebration July 24 Marks Arby's 50th Anniversary

Arby's Restaurant Group Inc., which today has more than 3,600 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is sponsoring the reunion.
