Summer Festival of the Arts Prepares for Weekend
Friday, July 11, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Today, the day before the 16th annual Summer Festival of the Arts kicks off on the campus of Youngstown State University, a small contingent of vendors began pitching their tents and setting up their wares.
With items that range from dresses to glassware and frog-themed vases to gourmet coffee, the show will feature 80 artists from several states, says the event coordinator, Lori Factor.
The Summer Festival of the Arts begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs to 7 p.m. It resumes at 11 a.m. Sunday and ends at 5 p.m.

Friday, July 11, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- The timing could have been better for Greg Bartholomew.
The owner of All American Cards & Comics, busy preparing for last weekend’s All AmeriCon comic-book convention that he has staged the past five years, was simultaneously preparing to move his Boardman store to its new location.
“It’s been crazy but it’s gone off without a hitch,” he said.
It’s not the first time timing hasn’t been Bartholomew’s friend. Within a few years of opening his first storefront in 1993, he saw the bottom drop out on the collectors’ market for comics and sports cards.

College Assistance Program Gives Out 31 Scholarships
Friday, July 11, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- With a little over a month before college freshman take to their new campuses, the Mahoning Valley College Assistance Program Thursday awarded $1,000 scholarships to 31 students.
Each of the students, graduates of eight schools in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, was given a Last Dollar Scholarship. MVCAP has awarded such scholarships annually the last 12 years.
Nonprofits to Sell Salvaged Housing Materials
Friday, July 11, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is working with the Trumbull County Land Bank and Habitat for Humanity to repurpose materials salvaged from abandoned houses before they’re razed by holding sales to the public.
The first effort runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19 with a public sale at a property owned by the land bank at 195 Belmont Ave. N.W. in the Garden District.
Ohio Auto, Home Insurance Rates among Lowest in US
Friday, July 11, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The average rate changes for the top-10 private passenger auto and homeowner’s insurance groups in Ohio were smaller than the 2012 changes -- increasing 2.6% and 7.4%, respectively.
Rates in the Buckeye State are among the lowest in the country, says Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, who’s also director of the Ohio Department of Insurance.
A recent Insure.com study found this year’s average annual premium for a policy for a new vehicle in Ohio is the lowest in the country.
