Muransky Prides Himself on Attending to Every Detail
Monday, July 14, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Ed Muransky admits he’s a stickler for details.
Take, for example, a typical patient suite on the second floor of the Surgical Hospital at Southwoods in Boardman. Muransky, president and CEO, gestures to a small board on the wall at the front of the room.
“There was a suggestion that we needed a white board and a cork board” that nurses can use to post notes and to write instructions. “I said, ‘You’re not having either.’ They look junky and there’s always stuff all over them.”
Concord Energy to Open Parkersburg Transload Facility
Monday, July 14, 2014PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Concord Energy LLC, an affiliate of Denver-based Concord Energy Holdings LLC, says it will open a truck-to-rail transload site here to transport condensate and natural gas liquids produced in the Utica and Marcellus shale plays.
Concord Energy did not provide investment or job-creation numbers for its transload project.
Power of the Arts Pushes Cigarette Tax for Funding
Monday, July 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- What's worked for Cleveland will work for the Mahoning Valley. That’s what the leaders of Power of the Arts hope as they advocate legislation that would amend the Ohio Revised Code to allow Mahoning and Trumbull County commissioners to impose a tax on cigarettes to fund the arts.
Before commissioners could do so, voters would have to vote for such a tax.
State law allows metropolitan areas with a “qualifying regional arts and cultural district” and a population of 1.2 million or more to place a tax on cigarettes to fund art programs.
YSU Restructures MBA Program, Revises Criteria
Monday, July 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University has restructured its graduate program and revised its admission criteria to attract experienced business professionals.
The new admission criteria for an MBA aim to attract more professionals with experience in the business world, said the dean of the Williamson College, Betty Jo Licata.
The MBA will be offered on campus, online, and, starting in January, off-campus in Lorain County. An information session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. next Monday in Williamson Hall.
Officials Applaud Commerce Ruling on OCTG Dumping
Monday, July 14, 2014WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman applauded a Commerce Department ruling Friday on the dumping of imports in certain Oil Country Tubular Goods into the United States.
Following months of efforts by the senators to urge the U.S. Commerce Department to crack down on countries that dump their steel in the U.S. market, the department ruled that it would do so by levying trade tariffs against the nine countries, including South Korea.
Westminster College Establishes Minor in Social Media

The program will be offered through Westminster's department of communication studies, theater and art.

Workers Grade Bosses, Share Unusual Requests
Monday, July 14, 2014CHICAGO -- A bad boss is a classic cause of grief in the workplace, but just how common are they? Some 63% of U.S. workers say their managers deserve grades of A or B and only 14% would assign a D or an F, finds a survey conducted by CareerBuilder.
Nearly two in five, or 39%, said they are friends with their bosses, CareerBuilder learned.
Among respondents, 24% gave their boss an A, 39% a B, 23% a C, 9% a D and 5% an F.
