Permit Issued for Shale Gas Well in Poland Township
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued a new horizontal well permit to Hilcorp Energy Co. so it can proceed with drilling operations in Poland Township, records show.
ODNR issued the permit Oct. 24 and it grants Hilcorp permission to drill on land near Republic Services' Carbon Limestone Landfill in Mahoning County, records show. The name of the new well is CLL1-1H
Hilcorp has entered into an agreement with NiSource to construct a large pipeline and transportation network through northeastern Ohio. The company plans to spend more than $1 billion to explore and develop the Utica shale.
ODNR last week issued six new permits to Chesapeake Exploration LLC, a division of Chesapeake Energy Corp., to drill horizontal wells in Carroll and Columbiana counties in Ohio.
Chesapeake wants to drill two new horizontal wells in Elk Run and Salem townships in Columbiana and four wells in Perry, East, Augusta and Fox townships in Carroll County.
ODNR also issued two permits for RE Gas Development LLC to drill in Carroll County.
Gulfport Energy Corp., which continues to develop its acreage in the southeastern portion of the state, was issued two permits to drill in Harrison County, ODNR records show, while the department issued a permit to Hess Ohio Developments LLC for a new horizontal well in Harrison County.
There were no new horizontal drilling permits issued last week for Mercer or Lawrence counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
