3 Cracker Plant Projects Advance in Pa., Ohio, W.Va.

MONACA, Pa. -- A metal storage barn, a pair of smokestacks that rise 200 feet, and the remnants of several old production buildings are all that’s left of what once was Horsehead Corp.’s zinc manufacturing complex on the southern bank of the Ohio River here.

On a cloud-covered day in November, a single backhoe operator is busy performing demolition work here, navigating between piles of twisted metal and debris to clear way for what the region believes will one day become a huge petrochemical factory that employs hundreds.

CCPA CEO Drake Named to Who’s Who in Energy List

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- Tracy Drake, CEO of the Columbiana County Port Authority, has been named to the Who’s Who in Energy List for 2014/2015 by the American City Business Journals, Columbus edition.

Drake is among 134 professionals named to the list in Ohio and 900 named in seven energy markets throughout the United States. This is the second consecutive year Drake was named to the list.

ODNR Issues 15 New Utica Drilling Permits

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 15 new horizontal permits for wells in the Utica shale for the week ended Nov. 29, records show.

All of the wells are targeted for the central and southern region of the play where energy companies are having success drilling for natural gas and oil.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued eight horizontal drilling permits during the week ended Nov. 22, all of them targeted for wells in the southern tier of the Utica shale.

Two Oklahoma City-based companies, American Energy Utica LLC and Chesapeake Exploration LLC, each were awarded four permits, ODNR said.

Chesapeake, the most prolific driller in the Utica, secured four permits in Harrison County at the R. Alan property in North Township.
