ODNR Issues 14 Permits for Utica Wells
Friday, October 17, 2014COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 14 new horizontal permits for oil and gas exploration in eastern Ohio's Utica shale for the week ended Oct. 11, the agency reports.
All of the wells permitted are located in what is considered the central and southern tiers of the oil and gas play, first developed by energy companies in 2010.
PDC Energy, based in Bridgeport, W. Va., was awarded seven new permits for wells in Noble County, ODNR reported, while Denver-based Antero Resources secured three more in the county.
Chesapeake Sells Marcellus, Utica Acres to Southwestern
Thursday, October 16, 2014HOUSTON -- Southwestern Energy Co. today announced that it has agreed to pay Chesapeake Energy Corp. $5.375 billion to acquire 413,000 net acres in West Virginia and southwest Pennsylvania. The acquisition covers oil and gas assets in the Upper Devonian, Marcellus and Utica shales. It includes 256 operated and producing Marcellus and Utica horizontal wells and an additional 179 non-operated or non-producing wells.
Uptick in Natural Gas Production with Pipelines
Thursday, October 16, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Gas production in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania could reach record levels next year because more pipeline capacity is coming on line across the country, allowing more natural gas from the region to be extracted.
“Once November hits there should be an uptick,” because if the additional pipelines, said Sami Yahya, an energy analyst with Bentek LLC, a Denver-based energy market analytics company.
Shell Plant Not the Only Cracker in the Pipeline
Friday, October 10, 2014POTTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- It is as close to a sure thing without being officially confirmed.
It’s expected that Shell Chemicals will construct an ethane cracker plant in this township, near Monaca. Most people think an announcement could come early next year and some have speculated that an announcement could be made next month around election time.
Gov. Tom Corbett, who is running for re-election, has said repeatedly he is bullish on the project, but has declined to comment further because he is under a confidentiality agreement.
