US Manufacturers See More Savings from Shale Gas

NEW YORK -- The continued "shale effect" on U.S. manufacturing could bring an annual cost savings of $22.3 billion by 2030, assuming a high natural gas recovery and low-price scenario, finds a new research report by PwC.

In terms of job creation, continued shale gas activity will create 930,000 shale gas driven manufacturing jobs by 2030 and 1.41 million by 2040, the report adds.

McClendon Company to Drill More in Guernsey, Harrison

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- American Energy Utica LLC, the company founded by former Chesapeake Energy Corp. CEO Aubrey McClendon, secured 12 new permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale last week as energy companies showed no let up in their focus on developing the southern portion of that oil and gas play.

American Energy was awarded seven new well permits in Guernsey County and five new permits in Harrison County, according to the latest well permits released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hilcorp Energy Co. has stepped on the gas at its Carbon Limestone Landfill well pads in Mahoning County, resulting in strong production in the northern tier of the Utica shale, according to newly released data from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (READ RELATED STORY).

Third Quarter Utica Well Production Is Up 49%

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Production from horizontal oil and gas wells across the state was 49% higher during the third quarter compared to the second  quarter, according to a newly released report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Horizontal shale wells in Ohio produced three million barrels of oil and 132 billion cubic feet of natural gas during the three months ended Sept. 30, ODNR said.

By comparison, during the second quarter, Utica wells produced 2.4 million barrels of oil and 88.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
