Hilcorp Steps Up Drilling Plans in Mahoning County
Friday, July 26, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hilcorp Energy Co. plans to drill at least five more horizontal wells at its Carbon Limestone site in Poland Township, according to records from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
ODNR lists five new wells for which it issued permits July 17 for Hilcorp's CLL2 pad in Poland that target the Utica/Point Pleasant shale formations in eastern Ohio.
Hilcorp, based in Houston, now holds 12 permits to drill at the Carbon Limestone site from two separate well pads. According to ODNR, the company has thus far drilled a single well there.
'Don’t Frack Ohio 2' Rally Monday in Warren
Thursday, July 25, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- The "Don't Frack Ohio 2" rally is set for Monday in Courthouse Square, organizers say. Information tables will be set up by 11:30 a.m. and the speakers will begin their remarks at 1:30 p.m.
Organizers describe the rally as a response to what they see as growing concerns that the oil and gas industry has targeted Ohio for disposal of wastewater from hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking. They are calling on the state Legislature and Gov. John Kasich to ban underground injection of toxic and “potentially radioactive” waste.
$70M Oil Terminal Planned for Ohio Commerce Center
Tuesday, July 23, 2013LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- Banking heavily on a future payout in oil and condensate from the Utica shale, Houston-based Halcon Resources Corp. is planning to develop a $70 million oil storage and rail loading terminal at the Ohio Commerce Center, officials say.
"In a nutshell, it would be an offload facility until pipelines are in place," says Dave Harrison, Lordstown's planning and zoning administrator.
Opponents Renew Fracking Bill of Rights Initiative
Saturday, July 20, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Three months after the push to pass a community bill of rights failed in the May primary, a group seeking to ban drilling, hydraulic fracturing and injection wells in the city is once again seeking to place the measure before voters.
FrackFree Mahoning Valley is soliciting signatures to have the measure placed on the ballot in the general election in November, reports member Susie Beiersdorfer.
