Council Authorizes City to Pursue Drilling for Gas
Thursday, October 18, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – City Council voted 5-2 Wednesday night to authorize the Board of Control to seek competitive proposals and enter into contracts that would lease land the city owns to oil and gas companies.
4th Ward Councilman Mike Ray and 5th Ward Councilman Paul Drennen voted no to the proposal upon its third reading.
Mill Creek Park Sets Second Hearing on Drilling
Thursday, October 18, 2012CANFIELD, Ohio – The Board of Mill Creek MetroParks has scheduled a second public hearing for Oct. 25 related to oil and gas exploration and its potential impact.
The first public hearing was held Oct. 16 and featured Rhonda Reda, executive director for the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Project.
Reda defended the industry's practices and touted the economic benefits of oil and gas drilling in the Utica shale.
The second hour was reserved for public comment, and all who spoke voiced their opposition to drilling on or near the park.
Drilling Critics Sound Off at Public Hearings
Wednesday, October 17, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Two public meetings, two venues for what resulted in overwhelming public opposition voiced against hydraulic fracturing in the city and in Mill Creek Park.
Residents of the Mahoning Valley packed City Hall Tuesday evening where they voiced their opinions on an ordinance City Council will consider tonight. That measure would enable the Board of Control to lease city-owned land to drilling companies exploring for oil and gas in the Utica shale.
Halcon Buys Trumbull, Mercer Leases, Well Pad
Tuesday, October 16, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Houston-based Halcon Resources Corp. has acquired Carrizo Oil and Gas's Utica shale leasehold positions in Trumbull County, Ohio, and Mercer and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania.
"We're running out of money to buy more acreage, so we decided to sell what’s in the north," said Richard Hunter, Carrizo spokesman. "We're really looking for acreage in the Guernsey, Belmont and Harrison county areas."
