McClendon Says He's 'Thrilled' with Utica Results
Friday, November 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corp. says he's optimistic about natural-gas liquids production in Ohio's Utica shale, at the same attesting that acreage extending south from Columbiana County is among the best target areas in the United States.
"I think we have a really good handle of where the core of the core is," Aubrey McClendon said Friday morning during a conference call with analysts. "We feel like we own it."

Friday, November 02, 2012OKLAHOMA CITY – Chesapeake Energy Corp. suffered a third-quarter net loss of $2.01 billion, or $3.19 a share, the energy producer announced late Thursday, primarily the result of a $2 billion write-down in the value of dry natural gas deposits. The $2.01 billion loss compared to earnings of $922 million in the third quarter of 2011, or $1.23 per share.
Permit Issued for Shale Gas Well in Poland Township
Thursday, November 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued a new horizontal well permit to Hilcorp Energy Co. so it can proceed with drilling operations in Poland Township, records show.
ODNR issued the permit Oct. 24 and it grants Hilcorp permission to drill on land near Republic Services' Carbon Limestone Landfill in Mahoning County, records show. The name of the new well is CLL1-1H
Myths, Realities of Shale Gas Is YSU Topic
Tuesday, October 30, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- “Unconventional Gas Development from Shale Plays: Myths and Realities” is the topic of a presentation Nov. 7 at Youngstown State University. The speaker is A.R. Ingraffea, the Dwight C. Baum professor of engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University.
Ingraffea will make his presentation via a live video conference to be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The presentation will explore some myths and realities concerning large-scale development of natural gas deposits in shale plays in the Northeast.
