Schiavoni Proposes New Drilling Safeguards
Friday, October 05, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- State Sen. Joe Schiavoni introduced legislation this week to improve safety measures related to oil and gas drilling.
If approved, Senate Bill 378 would double to 300 feet the previous minimum distance a well or storage tank can be from an occupied dwelling or home. Current law stipulates wells “shall not be within 150 feet” from a dwelling.
Hagan Introduces Bill to Disclose Fracking Chemicals
Thursday, October 04, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- State Rep. Robert F. Hagan (D-Youngstown) and state Sen. Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) today introduced companion legislation addressing the concerns of many Ohioans regarding the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing by the oil and gas industry. The bills, House Bill 596 and Senate Bill 379, propose to reverse the gag order that was placed on medical professionals through SB 315, and expand the reporting requirements for oil and gas well permits.
Consol Begins Drilling Two Wells in North Jackson
Wednesday, October 03, 2012NORTH JACKSON, Ohio – Consol Energy Corp. demonstrated just what it takes to drill not one, but two, wells at the same site Tuesday as the Pittsburgh-based company unveiled to reporters a new drilling rig positioned in northwest Mahoning County.
The well, named MAHN-7, is just off Bailey Road in Jackson Township, and it's one of the sites in the county that Consol hopes will produce a steady flow of oil, natural gas and natural-gas liquids.
And just 20 feet away from the first borehole where a 154-high derrick stands, a second well will be drilled.
Poll Finds More Support for Hydraulic Fracturing
Monday, October 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Public opposition to the use of hydraulic fracturing in drilling for natural gas appears to be decreasing, according to a newly released Bloomberg National Poll.
The poll found 56% of Americans believe there should be more regulation of fracking, a decline from the 65% who wanted more regulations when the poll asked the same question in March.
Meantime, the number of poll respondents who think less regulation should be improsed on fracking rose to 29%, up from 18% in March.
