Chevron Secures 2nd Permit, Chesapeake Gets 10 More
Friday, October 26, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Oil giant Chevron has been issued a new permit to drill its second horizontal well in Mercer County, Pa., the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection reports.
Chevron Appalachia LLC was awarded the permit Oct. 15, records show, for drilling rights to the Hurtt property in East Lackawannock Township, records show.
There were no new permits issued for new wells in Lawrence County, Pa.
Environmental Groups Seek Fracking Fluids Disclosure
Wednesday, October 24, 2012WASHINGTON -- The Environmental Integrity Project will be joined by 16 other organizations today in submitting a petition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency asking the agency to include the oil and gas extraction industry --including hydraulic fracturing-- in its Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting requirements.
The petition is scheduled to be filed this afternoon, according to an announcement from the Environmental Integrity Project.
Consol Puts Employees, Visitors to the (Safety) Test
Saturday, October 20, 2012NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- Consol Energy places such an emphasis on safety that the company puts everyone to the test – even reporters invited to tour a well site in Jackson Township Oct. 2.
For nearly an hour and a half, members of print and broadcast media were primed on the safety and environmental standards followed at every Consol well site by the company safety manager, Kevin Ice.
Everything from required equipment, gear and cell phone use, down to how visitors and employees at the site are expected to park their vehicles was covered.

No New Permits for Mahoning, Shenango Valleys
Friday, October 19, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued five new horizontal drilling permits last week for energy companies exploring the Utica shale, none of which were in the Mahoning Valley.
ODNR awarded one permit Oct. 10 for Chesapeake Exploration LLC for a new well in Union Township in Carroll County, where more than 130 permits have been issued, the most for a single county in Ohio.
