PNC Donating Office Furniture to Nonprofits
Wednesday, March 21, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Area nonprofit agencies will have the opportunity to choose today from more than 300 pieces of furniture being donated by PNC Bank.
PNC, which earlier this month relocated its downtown branch and regional headquarters to City Centre One, is donating all unused office furniture to the local nonprofit community. The furniture will be available for area agencies to view and reserve at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 Hall, 200 McClurg Road in Boardman, from noon to 4 p.m. today and continuingthe next several days.
Akron-Canton Airport Records Busiest February
Wednesday, March 21, 2012GREEN, Ohio -- February was huge for Akron-Canton Airport, which marked the busiest February in history. Passenger traffic surged upward with a 23% increase compared to February 2011.
For the month, 128,300 passengers flew in and out of the airport, surpassing the last best February (2006) by 20,975 passengers, reported Rick McQueen, president and CEO. It also marks the 11th record-breaking month in a row for the airport. Year-to-date passenger traffic is up 18% compared to the first two months of 2011.
Patriot Water's President Blasts OEPA over Permits
Tuesday, March 20, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- Patriot Water Treatment LLC's president says the company continues to operate, despite Monday's announcement that after Apri1 1 it will no longer be permitted to release to Warren's wastewater treatment plant treated wastewater it receives from oil and gas wells.
Andrew Blocksom also insists a hearing scheduled for tomorrow is moving forward in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, despite notification that the state environmental official from whom Patriot and the city of Warren want answers won’t be there.
Avalon Holdings May Drill Brine Disposal Wells
Monday, March 19, 2012HOWLAND, Ohio -- Investors apparently like the idea of Avalon Holdings Inc., the waste management company that also operates three area golf clubs, getting into the brine disposal business.
A one-sentence notice of the company’s intention was included in its annual report, filed Thursday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The following day, Avalon’s share price rose 26.6% in extremely heaving trading.

Until 24 years later when she took a call from her brother, John Monroe, informing her he was at an auction.
“I thought, ‘Auction? That doesn’t seem so bad,’ ” Au said. “Then he told me he bought our old school. And guess who he wanted to run it?”
