Akron-Canton Airport Records Busiest February
GREEN, Ohio -- February was huge for Akron-Canton Airport, which marked the busiest February in history. Passenger traffic surged upward with a 23% increase compared to February 2011.
For the month, 128,300 passengers flew in and out of the airport, surpassing the last best February (2006) by 20,975 passengers, reported Rick McQueen, president and CEO. It also marks the 11th record-breaking month in a row for the airport. Year-to-date passenger traffic is up 18% compared to the first two months of 2011.
Passenger traffic was up on all airlines. AirTran Airways, offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa and Ft. Myers, Fla., Atlanta, New York, Boston and Milwaukee increased 24% compared to February 2011 carrying 65,000 total passengers. Frontier Airlines, with nonstop flights to Denver was up 74% compared to last year. Delta, flying to Atlanta and Detroit, was up 30%. US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 17%. United Airlines with nonstop flights to Chicago O'Hare had an increase of 7%.
Akron-Canton Airport airfares are the 14th average lowest in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
