Early Easter Helps Boost March Retail Sales
Thursday, April 26, 2012WASHINGTON -- An earlier Easter holiday and unseasonably warm weather through much of the country meant retailers witnessed solid sales growth in March. Seasonally adjusted retail sales (excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) increased 0.8% seasonally adjusted from February and 6.6 % unadjusted year-over-year.
Valley Unemployment Rates Decline in March
Wednesday, April 25, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Unemployment dropped in all three Ohio counties in the Youngstown-Warren area in March from the month before, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Tuesday.
Columbiana County's jobless rate declined from 9.8% in February to 9.1% last month, while Mahoning County's rate fell from 9.4% to 8.8% over the same period, according to the latest data released by the department. Trumbull County's rate dropped to 8.5% in March, from 8.9% in February.
$225 Million Plant Expansion Begins at Timken Co.
Tuesday, April 24, 2012CANTON, Ohio – The Timken Co. broke ground Monday on a $225 million expansion of its Faircrest steel plant here.
The investment by the specialty alloy steel and industrial components manufacturer is expected to improve the plant's productivity, expand its product range and increase capacity to serve growing demand for Timken specialty alloy steel bars, company officials said.
Record First-Quarter Global Sales for Chevrolet
Monday, April 23, 2012DETROIT – The Chevrolet Cruze led the General Motors brand as Chevrolet sold 1.18 million vehicles worldwide in the first three months of 2012, a 6.5% increase over the first quarter of 2011. In the last two calendar years, Chevrolet has grown faster than other high-volume global brands, bringing its global market share to 6.3%.
Venture Plastics Expands with Middlefield Facility

Products provided by the Middlefield plant are marketed under the Rellem brand of vacuum cleaner tools, brushes, dowel manufacturing and attachment kits for a wide variety of industries.
