Owner of Downtown Circle Makes Plans to Expand

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Al Adi says he is just listening to his customers by expanding his Downtown Circle.
By spring, the downtown convenience store, at 116 W. Federal St., will expand by adding a lounge in the rear of the building and a second entrance on West Commerce Street. It opened four years ago. “I’m concentrating more on the food,” he said Tuesday.
US Steel to Idle Lorain, Houston Tubular Mills

LORAIN, Ohio -- United States Steel Corp. confirmed today that it will temporarily idle its Lorain Tubular Operations as well as its Tubular Processing plant in Houston.
In a letter to the president of the United Steelworkers union, Leo Gerard, the company said, “This action is a result of a decline in tubular market conditions, which is impacting demand for the plant’s products.
Layoffs will begin March 8, the company said, idling 614 workers here and 142 in Houston.
Machinists Launch Drive to Represent Exal Workers

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Calls from a "substantial" number of employees spurred the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to file applications Monday with the National Labor Relations Board in a move that could result in workers voting to accept or reject union representation at Exal Corp.'s plant here, a labor official says.
"Employees contacted us and said they wanted to have a voice," said Dennis Wright, business representative and organizer for District Lodge 54 of the Machinists union. "They want a contract, a labor agreement."
Gasoline Prices Continue Slide in Region, Nationally

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The price of gasoline has fallen more than a dollar per gallon from a year ago, the latest AAA East Central Fuel Gauge Report shows.
The average price of a gallon of gas dropped nearly 16 cents this week, the agency reported. Across northeastern Ohio, the average price per gallon this week is $1.961, down from $2.117 the week of Dec. 29. During the week of Jan. 7, 2014, the average price per gallon was $3.329
More Millennials See Benefits to Job Hopping

MENLO PARK, Calif. – For the youngest generation of workers, moving from job to job is losing its bad reputation, a new survey from the Accountemps staffing firm suggests.
According to the survey, 57% of employees between the ages of 18 and 34 said changing jobs every few years might help their careers. That compares to 38% of professionals between the ages of 35 and 54 and just 22% of those age 55 and older who said they might benefit from job hopping.
