YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The price of gasoline has fallen more than a dollar per gallon from a year ago, the latest AAA East Central Fuel Gauge Report shows.
The average price of a gallon of gas dropped nearly 16 cents this week, the agency reported. Across northeastern Ohio, the average price per gallon this week is $1.961, down from $2.117 the week of Dec. 29. During the week of Jan. 7, 2014, the average price per gallon was $3.329
In the Mahoning Valley, prices for a gallon of regular unleaded hover around the $2 mark. Some stations in Warren this morning had posted prices of around $1.76 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.
Other prices in northeastern the Ohio AAA reported are $1.94 per gallon in Ashtabula, $1.95 in Cleveland, $1.892 in Ravenna and $1.815 in Norwalk.
Nationally, the average price of gas has fallen a record 102 days to $2.20 per gallon, the lowest average since May 9, 2009. Barring significant fluctuations in the price of crude oil, the average price at the pump is likely to remain below $3 per gallon throughout 2015, although prices may see seasonal increases this spring as refineries undergo maintenance, or this summer as demand increases during the busy summer driving season.
