Carrick Named Director of Penn State Shenango
Friday, November 15, 2013SHARON, Pa. -- Jo Anne Carrick has been named director of the Penn State Shenango Campus, Madlyn Hanes, vice president for commonwealth campuses, has announced. Carrick, who assumes the office Jan. 1, succeeds Dr. Fredric Leeds, who retires Dec. 31 as chancellor after more than 42 years with the university.
W. Va. Cracker? Maybe, Say Brazilian Companies

Earl Ray Tomblin and Odebrecht, a Brazilian company that employs 190,000 in 26 countries, today announced that Odebrecht will explore the development of a new petrochemical complex in Wood County, W.Va. The complex, Ascent -- Appalachian Shale Cracker Enterprise -- would include an ethane cracker, three polyethylene plants, and associated infrastructure for water treatment and energy co-generation.
A purchase option on the anticipated project site in Parkersburg has already been secured.
Breaking News: Cracker Plant for West Virginia
Thursday, November 14, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – News organizations in West Virginia are reporting that the state’s governor, Earl Ray Tomblin, will announce at 2 p.m. today that a Brazilian company plans to build an ethylene cracker plant in Wood County, W. Val.
The news was first reported by the Parkersburg News and Sentinel (READ STORY). The announcement will be made by Tomblin at the the Parkersburg campus of West Virginia University.
Lockheed to Close Akron Plant, 4 Other Locations

'America Makes,' Lockheed Martin Strengten Partnership

Garvey, Spiegel Testify for Creation of Innovation Hubs

Garvey spoke with reporters in advance of his testimony yesterday before the Senate Commerce Committee on U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s legislation to establish such networks.

Diamond Steel Purchases Assets of Valley Crane
Thursday, November 14, 2013NORTH LIMA, Ohio -- Diamond Steel Construction Co. has expanded its fleet and customer base with the purchase of assets of Valley Crane Rental and Sales Inc., Niles, Dave Collins, president of Diamond Steel, announces.
"We've purchased two cranes, lifts and a couple of trucks," Collins says. "We've also been able to work off Valley Crane's customer base, so that increases our volume a bit."
Collins reports that Diamond purchased a 40-ton crane and an eight-ton crane. "We have 26 cranes now," he says
Customers Report Boardman Sparkle Closing Nov. 23
Thursday, November 14, 2013BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Boardman Sparkle Market, which has operated since 1946, will close Nov. 23, customers of the store report.
Customers said they learned of the closing Wednesday from employees at the store, 6315 Market St. According to the store’s website, it is owned and operated by the Anzevino family. Open seven days a week, the store’s recent additions include a coffee bar with an array of fresh baked goods near the front of the store.
Event Looks at Natural Gas as Transportation Fuel
Thursday, November 14, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The use of natural gas as a transportation fuel will be the focus of a Dec. 5 event at Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield.
The Natural Gas Vehicle Lunch and Learn is being presented by Ohio Energy Resource Alliance, Clean Fuels Ohio, General Motors, Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Scheduled participants include individuals and companies that are converting vehicles to use natural gas and building refueling stations in the region.
PNC Surcharge-free ATMs Coming to Sheetz Stores
Thursday, November 14, 2013ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has signed an agreement with PNC Bank to install PNC ATMs in its more than 480 stores in six states that include Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, the president and CEO of Sheetz, Joe Sheetz, announced Wednesday.
Those who use the ATMs pay nothing to PNC to use them but could incur foreign transaction fees if they access their checking or savings accounts with other financial institutions, a PNC spokeswoman said.
