Thursday, January 06, 2005YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The financial health of Youngtsown State University is improving but if the state's financial health does not turn around, it could take a turn for the worse, officials warned yesterday.YSU has nearly doubled its score on a key indicator used to measure the financial health of Ohio public universities, the university reported, and YSU has received a clean report from its external auditors."We are in a healthy financial situation," said John Habat, vice president for administration.

Superior Chemical Gets Tax Break to Build Plant
Wednesday, January 05, 2005"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city's Board of Control this morning approved an enterprise zone agreement for Superior Chemical Products Co. to relocate to a new facility it plans to build in the Ohio Works Industrial Park. Currently located on Hubbard Road in Youngstown, Superior Chemical plans to spend $900,000 -- including $50,000 for machinery and equipment -- to construct a 25,000-square-foot building with 5,000 square feet of office space and the remainder devoted to warehousing. The company received a 10-year, 75% abatement on real estate and personal property taxes.
City Moves to Acquire Title to Phar-Mor Centre
Wednesday, January 05, 2005"By Dan O'BrienYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- City Council last night approved measures that will enable the city to acquire title to the Phar-Mor Centre and pave the way for a new tenant to move into that building.At council's finance committee meeting Wednesday, Finance Director David Bozanich said a deal is in the works that will allow Infocision, a teleservices company based in Akron, to occupy the fourth floor of the building.Part of that deal includes the city obtaining title to the Phar-Mor building with no debt obligations, Bozanich said.
RTI Energy Systems Wins Contract from BP
Wednesday, January 05, 2005"NILES, Ohio -- RTI International Metals Inc., (NYSE:RTI) reports its Houston-based subsidiary, RTI Energy Systems, Inc., has been selected to provide titanium stress joints to BP for its Shah Deniz oil-drilling project in the Caspian Sea near Azerbaijan. According to a news release from the company, titanium was chosen by BP because its strength and flexibility will be needed to deal with the strong currents in the Caspian Sea.
