Superior Chemical Gets Tax Break to Build Plant
"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city's Board of Control this morning approved an enterprise zone agreement for Superior Chemical Products Co. to relocate to a new facility it plans to build in the Ohio Works Industrial Park. Currently located on Hubbard Road in Youngstown, Superior Chemical plans to spend $900,000 -- including $50,000 for machinery and equipment -- to construct a 25,000-square-foot building with 5,000 square feet of office space and the remainder devoted to warehousing. The company received a 10-year, 75% abatement on real estate and personal property taxes. In December the city transferred the 3.5-acre site to the company.Charles J. Ramsey, Superior Chemical president, said he plans to begin construction in March or possibly earlier if the weather cooperates. The company deals in wholesale janitorial supplies. According to the enterprise zone agreement with the city, Superior Chemical will retain 14 employees and keep a $450,000 payroll in the city. In addition, the company plans to hire two full-time employee and one part-time employee, adding $100,000 to its payroll. The company's existing facility on the East Side suffered extensive damage from last summer's flooding. Flood waters reached a depth of 5 feet throughout the offices and warehouse, destroying several hundred thousand dollars worth of inventory, equipment and office hardware, executives said.At this morning's meeting, the board of control also approved facade improvement assistance loans to Transit Service inc., for $5,006, and to Youngstown Tube Co., for $10,000."
