Pa. Seeks Nominations for 'Best 50 Women in Business'
"HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Wanted: The best 50 women in business in Pennsylvania. The commonwealth's Department of Community and Economic Development is seeking nominations for the its 10th annual Best 50 Women in Business Awards. This program is conducted in cooperation with five Pennsylvania business publications."Women today, more than ever, are key players in Pennsylvania's revitalization," said DennisYablonsky, secretary of the Department of Community and Economic Development, in announcing the 2005 awards program. "The Best 50 Women in Business Awards honors entrepreneurs and business leaders who excel at what they do."Yablonsky cited 2004 figures from the Center for Women's Business Research that showed more than 226,800 female-owned firms in Pennsylvania employ more than 298,000 people and generate nearly $42 billion in sales. "Women are creating jobs, mentoring in their communities and driving the economy," he said.. "This award program allows the community to nominate women they admire for their contributions to the commonwealth." A panel of judges will select the top 50 candidates based on dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for women in business.Candidates for the award must be:A female resident of Pennsylvania, or be employed in the state.An owner, partner, president, chief executive officer, board chair, in a senior executive management level or a woman with significant authority for decision-making in a business or company.This year's honorees will be recognized May 23 at an awards reception in Harrisburg.Winners will be profiled in special supplements in the Central Penn Business Journal; Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal; Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal; Pittsburgh Business Times; and Pennsylvania Business Central. Nominations must be received by Feb. 17. Nominations can be mailed to the Center for Entrepreneurial Assistance at the Commonwealth Keystone Building, 4th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17120.
