Friday, May 02, 2014AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The $50 million investment General Motors is making to its Lordstown Complex means greater job security for members of the United Auto Workers Union and greater flexibility for future products to be manufactured at the plant, a union leader at the plant says.
The funds will be spent for a new flexible trim shop to support production of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, the company announced.
National Unemployment Rate Falls to 6.3% in April
Friday, May 02, 2014WASHINGTON – The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 6.3% in April, down from 6.7% in for the prior two months, as nonfarm payroll employment rose by 288,000 during the month, the U.S. Department of Labor reported this morning. Unemployment was 7.5 percent in April 2013.
Monthly job gains have averaged 238,000 over the past three months, taking into account revisions for February and March, which increased total nonfarm employment by 36,000 on net. In the 12 months prior to April, employment growth averaged 190,000 per month.

Friday, May 02, 2014LORDSTOWN,, Ohio -- General Motors is investing $50 million for a new flexible trim shop and upgrades to the press room at the Lordstown Complex to support production of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan.
Some construction work has begun at the complex, the company said in its announcement. Chevrolet will announce timing of the next generation Cruze later.
Chevy Cruze Sales Slip 1.3% in April
Friday, May 02, 2014DETROIT -- Sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze dipped 1.3% during April compared to the same month last year, General Motors Co. announced Thursday.
The automaker reported 21,752 new Cruze models were delivered during the month, compared to 22,032 delivered in April 2013.
Still, the Cruze was the highest-selling passenger car in GM's portfolio during the month, and the second best-selling vehicle overall behind the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
