Chevy Cruze Sales Slip 1.3% in April
DETROIT -- Sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze dipped 1.3% during April compared to the same month last year, General Motors Co. announced Thursday.
The automaker reported 21,752 new Cruze models were delivered during the month, compared to 22,032 delivered in April 2013.
Still, the Cruze was the highest-selling passenger car in GM's portfolio during the month, and the second best-selling vehicle overall behind the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
GM closed the month with sales of 254,076 vehicles, a 7% increase from last year, the company said. Fleet sales were up 5% while retail deliveries were up 8%, GM reported.
"Retail demand was steady in April, and truck sales and transaction prices were especially strong," said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales operations. "As we expected, the economy continues to strengthen. In addition, our award-winning new products are performing well, we have more on the way and our dealers are winning accolades for outstanding service."
Among the new products launched for 2015 are the new Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, which began arriving in showrooms in April. Other launches planned for this year include the Cadillac ATS coupe, which is expected this summer, and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups, scheduled to appear in showrooms this fall.
