WCI Steel Completes Blast Furnace Reline
Monday, July 19, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- Iron production at WCI Steel Inc.'s blast furnace has resumed after the successful completion of a $15.3 million reline, officials announced today. The furnace was blown in Saturday and molten iron was expected to be transported to the basic oxygen furnace later today for conversion to molten steel."The reline was completed on time and on budget, thanks to the work of our blast furnace, engineering and plant services teams and our partnership with our main contractor, Graycor," says Patrick G. Tatom, WCI president and chief executive officer.
Habitat for Humanity to Build 12th House in Valley
Monday, July 19, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ground-breaking ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow for Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County's 12th new residence in the Mahoning Valley. The single-family house, to be occupied by the Arroyo family, will be built on Youngstown's west side at the corner of Bruno and Oregon avenues.Ohio Edison sponsors the project as part of a $260,000 grant from its parent company, FirstEnergy of Akron, to the local Habitat affiliate. The grant will fund construction of four single-family houses and two duplexes.

Vintage Ohio 2004 Showcases 20 Wineries
Monday, July 19, 2004KIRTLAND, Ohio -- Vintage Ohio 2004, scheduled for Aug. 7 and 8 at Lake Farmpark, will showcase more than 100 wines from some 20 Ohio wineries as well as offer two stages of live music, education programs, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations and more.This is the 10th year for the festival, sponsored by the Ohio Wine Producers Association. It is the largest wine, food, music and family fun festival in Ohio.A number of corporate sponsors are setting up tents and booths, including KeyBank, which is hosting a wine education program at which a wine expert will answer questions.
Penn State Sells Surplus on e-Bay
Monday, July 19, 2004UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- With five cuts to its state appropriation in the past three years, Penn State University is turning to e-Bay to get the most out of high-tech, specialized items that it no longer needs.In 2003, the university's salvage and surplus department raised $93,000 selling outdated equipment on the Internet auction service. About 90% of that money goes back to the departments where the items originated, officials say.
Delphi Revenues Total $7.5 Billion
Monday, July 19, 2004TROY, Mich. -- Delphi Corp.'s second quarter 2004 revenues of $7.5 billion are up 6% compared with the same period in 2003, driven by 23% growth in non-GM sales, officials reported Friday. But the company also said it anticipates lower NorthAmerican production levels in the third quarter, and revenue isexpected to range between $6.4 billion and $6.8 billion, or close toDelphi's 2004 break-even point."At these lower revenuelevels, we're expecting a loss between $10 million and $40 million," said Alan Dawes, Delphi vice chairman and chief financial officer.

National City Reports Decline in Second-Quarter Earnings
Friday, July 16, 2004CLEVELAND -- National City Corp. today reported second-quarter 2004 net income of $519 million, or $.83 per share, compared to $.94 per share for the second quarter of 2003. For the six months ended June 30, net income was $1.2 billion, or $1.99 per share, approximately equal to the results for the first six months of 2003."We've previously said that we expected the exceptionally high earnings from National City Mortgage to decline sharply with the onset of higher interest rates, which is exactly what has happened," said David A. Daberko, chairman and chief executive officer.
