Habitat for Humanity to Build 12th House in Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ground-breaking ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow for Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County's 12th new residence in the Mahoning Valley. The single-family house, to be occupied by the Arroyo family, will be built on Youngstown's west side at the corner of Bruno and Oregon avenues.Ohio Edison sponsors the project as part of a $260,000 grant from its parent company, FirstEnergy of Akron, to the local Habitat affiliate. The grant will fund construction of four single-family houses and two duplexes. Faculty, staff and students from Austintown Fitch High School will serve as volunteer workers to build the house, and Youngstown State University will provide volunteers as needed as well as technical assistance. Inmates of Elkton Federal Prison will pre-fabricate the home's interior and exterior wall panels, and members of Mahoning Valley trade union apprentice programs will perform all plumbing, heating and electrical work."
