Akron-Canton Airport Sets Passenger Record in June
GREEN, Ohio-- Akron-Canton Airport posted a new single-month record for origin and destination passengers in June, hosting nearly 133,000 travelers, reports Fred Krum, airport director. That is 29,000 more passengers than last June, accounting for a 27% increase in traffic.The mark topped last August's total of 114,850 passengers, the previous single-month record.For the first half of the year, more than 644,000 fliers have passed through the terminal, compared to 530,450 in 2003, a 21.4% increase.AirTran Airways, Delta Connection, and Northwest Airlink each experienced double-digit increases compared to last year (44%, 48% and 60 % respectively), based on additional flights that were at least 80% full, Krum says. AirTran Airways began twice-daily service to Boston June 4, Delta Connection added a sixth Atlanta and an eighth Cincinnati flight, and Northwest Airlink added a seventh round-trip to Detroit.AirTran Airways, Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink, United Express and US Airways Express serve the growing Akron-Canton market.The airport is currently in the third phase of the $70 million, five-year expansion project, which will focus on building a $24 million gate concourse and a new Shuffel Road interchange.
