Ohio Disaster Aid to Flood Victims Tops $33 Million
Friday, July 23, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- More than $21 million in state and federal assistance has been approved for individuals and business owners who suffered damage in Ohio's spring flooding, disaster recovery officials said today. An additional $12.1 million in federal assistance to rebuild infrastructure is expected to be provided in the weeks ahead."With an application deadline of Aug. 2, we are hopeful that nearly every individual who may be eligible for assistance has applied," said Dale W. Shipley, executive director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
F.N.B. to Present at NYC Investor Conference

(NYSE:FNB) announced today it will participate as a presenter at an investor conference July 28 in New York sponsored by Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc., an investment banking firm.Stephen Gurgovits, president and chief executive officer of F.N.B., and Brian Lilly, chief financial officer, will make a 20-minute presentation regarding the company's business strategy and financial performance.Keefe, Bruyette & Woods was formerly headquartered at the World Trade Center, and lost one third of its staff on Sept. 11, 2001, including its chairman, Joseph Berry.
Sherlock Renews Push for Joint Promotion of Tourism
Friday, July 23, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A proposal to merge tourist promotional activities for Mahoning and Trumbull counties went nowhere earlier in the year, but a Mahoning County commissioner thinks the idea may get a warmer reception now.At a meeting of the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners late Friday, Vicki Allen Sherlock announced she has sent letters to the three Trumbull County commissioners asking them to reconsider a possible merger.
Delphi Opens Technical Center in South Korea
Friday, July 23, 2004SEOUL, South Korea -- Delphi Corp. (NYSE:DPH) this week officially opened its second technical center in South Korea.Delphi invested in excess of $40 million to open the center, located in the province of Yong-in, Seoul. A team of 240 engineers and support personnel will initially focus on developing gasoline and diesel engine management systems.Delphi's other Korean technical center is located in Kangwon-Do.
YSU Hosts 5th Business Camp for High School Students
Friday, July 23, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- For the fifth consecutive year, Youngstown State University will host Ohio Business Week, a camp for high school students that teaches them the rudiments of American capitalism.The camp, to be held on the YSU campus, runs from Sunday to Saturday, July 31. Of 130 participating students about to begin their sophomore, junior or seniors years, 42 attend schools in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The balance attend schools throughout Ohio.During the week, students learn business skills, concepts, and theories from local and regional business leaders.

New Pew Poll Gives Issues Advantage to Democrats

John Kerry, bolstered by a number of favorable trends in public opinion, although he remains locked in a statistical tie for voter support with President George W. Bush. Kerry's party is dominant on key domestic issues and at least competitive with the Republicans on every issue except terrorism, the Pew Poll finds.
Farmers National Bank Records Drop in Income
Thursday, July 22, 2004CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp. parent holding company of the Farmers National Bank of Canfield, today reported net income for the three months ended June 30 of $2.295 million, or 19 cents per share, compared to $2.423 million, or 19 cents per share for the second quarter of 2003. Net income for the six-month period ending June 30 was $4.632 million, compared to $4.629 million reported for the 2003 period , or 37 cents per share for both six-month periods."Our second quarter's results are slightly behind our internal projections," said Frank L.
