Brilex Industries to Expand Youngstown Plant
By Dan O'BrienYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A company that produces and assembles heavy manufacturing equipment for a variety of industries plans to expand its operations, another indicator that the industrial sector in the Mahoning Valley is regaining its health.Brilex Industries, Inc. intends to purchase new machinery and equipment and expand its facility on Crescent Street, Alex Benyo, vice president said today."Business has been very good. We've done well and things are picking up," Benyo stated. Last night, City Council approved an enterprise zone agreement with the company and awarded it a 75% tax abatement over 10 years on the improvements. "It's the third one we've done with this company," said city development director Jeffrey Chagnot. Brilex wants to install $1.8 million worth of new machinery and equipment and spend another $450,000 to expand its building, Chagnot reported. In return for tax relief, the company has pledged to create another 10 jobs at the location."The company started with about 8 people and now employs 52," Chagnot elaborated. Benyo reported the company is adding about 12,000 square feet to its building. Brilex will also purchase new computer-numerically controlled (CNC) equipment used to machine components. "The total investment is about $1.8 million," he elaborated.Brilex fabricates, machines and assembles heavy equipment used in the metals, power, rubber and plastics industries, Benyo said.
