Cadillac to Offer 'Intelligent' Technology in 2017 CTS
Monday, September 08, 2014DETROIT -- Cadillac will begin offering advanced “intelligent and connected” vehicle technologies on certain 2017 model year vehicles, the CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, said Sunday during her keynote address at the Intelligent Transport System World Congress here.
In about two years, an all-new 2017 Cadillac vehicle will offer customers an advanced driver assist technology that GM calls “super cruise” and in the same timeframe the 2017 Cadillac CTS will be enabled with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology, Barra said.
YSU Prof Gets $200,640 for Materials Research
Monday, September 08, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ruigang Wang, professor of materials chemistry at Youngstown State University, has been awarded $200,640 from the National Science Foundation to continue his research into improving catalytic conversion systems in automobiles.
The three-year grant is funded by the chemical catalysis program at the National Science Foundationand will support six graduate research assistant students and at least six undergraduate student researchers, the university said.
Oh-Penn Program Puts Educators Inside Factories
Monday, September 08, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Before this summer, Tawny Tharp had never set foot in a manufacturing plant.
Why would she? As a teacher at South Range Elementary School, her day is devoted to developing lesson plans, creating new learning strategies, and working to lift her third graders to higher proficiencies in subjects such as math, reading and science. Welding torches aren’t part of her curricula.
This summer though, Tharp found herself on the factory floor, dressed in coveralls and a welding torch in her hand, as she explored the fundamentals of a career in manufacturing.

Port Authority to 'Consider Appointment' of Official
Friday, September 05, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Western Reserve Port Authority could fill its months-vacant position of executive director at a special meeting set for Tuesday “to consider the appointment of a public official.”
The meeting, which will be held at 3 p.m. at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, was called by Ron Klingle, the port authority’s chairman, according to an advisory sent this afternoon.
