Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Flat in August
Thursday, September 11, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new cars and trucks in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties remained flat in August compared to a year earlier, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report on auto sales.
Dealers in the three counties sold 2,591 new vehicles in August versus 2,592 sold that month in 2013.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were also down slightly from a year ago, the report shows. Dealers last month sold 6,257 new and used cars and trucks compared to 6,321 last year, a decline of 1%.

Vallourec Star 'Strongly Disagrees' with OSHA Fine
Wednesday, September 10, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Wednesday that it has cited Vallourec Star with 22 serious violations that carry with them $94,000 in penalties.
The decision came in the wake of an investigation that was launched in February after a worker was crushed between two machines and received severe injuries, the agency said in a press release. The machine operator suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis and has been unable to return to work.

GE Boosts Production at Grove City Engine Plant
Wednesday, September 10, 2014GROVE CITY, Pa. -- GE Transportation is looking to hire new machinists to support an increase in production volume at its diesel engine plant here, the company announced Tuesday.
The plant wants to hire 50 skilled machinists to support a $700 million contract signed in March that would supply Transnet, a South African rail, port and pipeline company, with 233 Evolution Series locomotives by next year. In addition, the company is preparing to introduce a new Tier 4 engine that meets new emissions standards established by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Hilcorp’s Carbon Limestone Wells Show Good Results
Wednesday, September 10, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hilcorp Energy Co.'s Carbon Limestone Landfill wells in Poland Township are showing muscle after just 22 days of production, according to reports released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Four of the six horizontal wells now in production at the Poland site's CLL2 well pad each produced more than 100 million cubic feet of natural gas over 22 days from the Utica/Point Pleasant shale formations during the second quarter of 2014, ODNR reports.

Year-End Hiring Plans Up, Manpower Finds
Wednesday, September 10, 2014MILWAUKEE -- Employers in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metropolitan statistical area, which includes Mercer County, Pa., expect to hire at a healthy pace during the fourth quarter, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
Between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 17% of the companies in the MSA interviewed by Manpower said they plan to hire more employees, while 6% expect to reduce staff.
Another 73% expect to maintain their workforce levels and 4% are uncertain of their hiring plans, yielding a net employment outlook of 11%.
Generations Insurance Acquires LTT Insurance Agency
Wednesday, September 10, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Generations Insurance Group has acquired LTT Insurance Agency in North Jackson, thereby increasing its customer base in northeastern Ohio, the company reports.
LTT, inside Leonard Truck and Trailer, and has been part of the North Jackson community since 2003.
Generations Insurance Group provides personal and commercial insurance as well as medical group benefits.
