The petition was filed in August by the IUE/CWA on behalf of the laid-off employees. Tervita to Build Water Treatment Plant in Carroll
Friday, December 07, 2012HOUSTON -- Tervita Corp. says its will build a water treatment facility in Carroll County to treat the produced and tophole drilling water Chesapeake Energy uses in its Utica shale production in Ohio.
The environmental and energy services company announced the contract award Thursday, noting that it will enable Chesapeake to “efficiently continue its Aqua Renew program by recycling water used in its drilling operations.
Columbiana Jury Finds for Patriot Energy in Lawsuit
Friday, December 07, 2012LISBON, Ohio – A Columbiana County jury has found in favor of Patriot Energy Partners LLC and nine other defendants that were sued for allegedly engaging in wrongful business practices related to the acquisition of mineral leases.
The Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas website shows the verdict was handed down Dec. 4 in favor of defendants Patriot, its president Andrew Blocksom, Thomas Blocksom, Robert Dickey, PEP Leasing LLC, and five other entities.
City Reviews Tax Abatement Compliance
Friday, December 07, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The panel that advises the city on the tax abatement agreements it has with businesses recommended continuing those deals as it pursues efforts to help them meet their hiring goals.
The city’s tax incentive review council met Thursday to review the abatements active for the 2011 reporting year. Of the 34 companies the city has tax abatement deals with for that year, most met or exceeded the goals they stated for investment and hiring when they entered into their agreements, said T. Sharon Woodberry, city economic development director.
Online Holiday Spending Surpasses $21 Billion
Friday, December 07, 2012RESTON, Va. -- Online holiday spending surpassed $21 billion the first 32 days in this holiday shopping season, according to a comScore report. That’s 14% higher than the period last year and a 5% gain in spending per buyer.
For that period, which includes Cyber Monday, $21.4 billion was spent online. The total was led by a record $1.46 billion on Cyber Monday. Growth rates softened considerably in its wake and through the following weekend.

Charity Land Exchange Seeks Real Estate Donations
Friday, December 07, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- All donations of real estate to Charity Land Exchange Inc., a nonprofit entity, before Jan. 1 are fully tax deductible for the 2012 tax year, says attorney Joseph Bishara, executive director and founder of the exchange.
When the exchange sells the land, the proceeds go to the charity of the donor’s choice. “Even if the land is sold in 2013 or beyond, the donor still gets credit on his or her 2012 taxes,” Bishara explains.
