Democrats Urge Action on 'Hire Ohio' Legislation
Thursday, December 13, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio House Democratic lawmakers are calling on Gov. Kasich to prioritize hiring Ohioans before the year’s end. During a press event Wednesday, the legislators noted that Kasich publicly commented that oil and gas companies with hydraulic fracturing operations in the state do not appear to be hiring many Ohioans. Kasich’s comments in the Columbus Dispatch indicated that some sort of action would be taken if some unknown hiring threshold for Ohioans was not ultimately met, they said.
EGCC Student Services to Move to Valley Center
Thursday, December 13, 2012STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Beginning Monday, Eastern Gateway Community College student-service functions will move to the new Valley Center from the Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown. Admissions, academic advising, financial aid and other student services will temporarily work from classrooms at 101 E. Federal St., Youngstown.
Their offices and other service areas are under construction and scheduled to be ready for occupancy by the time spring classes begin Jan. 14.
Kachulis Re-elected Chairman of Penn-Northwest
Thursday, December 13, 2012HERMITAGE, Pa. – Lew Kachulis, president of Synergy Comp Insurance Co., Sharon, has been re-elected chairman of Penn-Northwest Development Corp., the lead economic development organization for Mercer County.
Penn-Northwest held its annual meeting Monday night at the Avalon Golf & County Club where Kachulis and the other officers and directors were elected or re-elected.
Elected vice chairmen were Robert Wilson, president and owner of Penn-Ohio Metals, and Mercer County Commissioner Matthew McConnell.
Ohio Chamber, Metro Chambers Update 'Redesigning Ohio'
Thursday, December 13, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Metro Chambers of Commerce reported Tuesday that much progress has been achieved since their 2010 release of Redesigning Ohio: Transforming Government into a 21st Century Institution.
In updating Redesigning Ohio, the chambers recommended a series of steps aimed at continuing to make government more effective and efficient. The updated report will be presented to Gov. John R. Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly for their reference as they begin the budget-writing process.
Hilcorp Gets New Permit for Lawrence County Well

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection records show the permit was issued to Hilcorp Dec. 3 as the company ramps up its presence in the western part of the commonwealth.

Chevy Cruze Top Seller in Valley in November
Wednesday, December 12, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Chevrolet Cruze was the best-selling new vehicle among dealers in the Mahoning Valley, according to a monthly report issued by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
The ADAEO report showed that 90 new Chevrolet Cruzes were sold by dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties last month, down from 116 sold during the same period last year.
Asimakopoulos Elected Chairman of Regional Chamber Board
Wednesday, December 12, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Peter Asimakopoulos, Youngstown market president for First National Bank, has been elected chairman of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Board of Directors.
He will serve as in 2013 and 2014.
Asimakopoulos succeeds Bonnie Deutsch Burdman, who remains on the executive committee. She is director of community relations for the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.
