The bank released the results of its inaugural Midwest Economic Index Tuesday, in which Echo Research conducted 2,133 online interviews between Nov. 12 and 20 with residents of Ohio, Michigan, western Pennsylvania, greater Indianapolis and West Virginia.
Democrats Return Ryan to Appropriations
Wednesday, December 12, 2012WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan will return to the powerful House Appropriations Committee when Congress reconvenes next month, the congressman’s office announced Tuesday.
Ryan was appointed to the committee in December 2006 but lost his seat after Republicans won the majority in the 2010 general election and the number of seats for Democrats was reduced. The Appropriations Committee will have jurisdiction over $1.047 trillion for the 2013 fiscal year.

Chesapeake Sells Remaining Midstream Assets for $2.16B

Bipartisan Calls for Keeping Duties on Chinese Pipe

Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman led a group of senators Monday calling on the Commerce Department to maintain antidumping duties and countervailing duties on Chinese steel pipe imports, and protect products manufactured at three Mahoning Valley plants.
The oil country tubular goods that would be covered by the extension are used for domestic oil exploration, particularly in the shale industry, and are produced in Ohio at V&M Star in Youngstown, Wheatland Tube in Warren and JMC Steel in Brookfield as well as U.S. Steel in Lorain.
Akron Children’s to Operate Pediatric at East Liverpool
Tuesday, December 11, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Akron Children’s Hospital and East Liverpool City Hospital have signed an agreement that has the former operating the pediatric unit at the latter. According to the plan, Akron Children’s will operate the 15-bed unit in space leased from East Liverpool City Hospital beginning in January.
“We recognize the need to bring Akron Children’s pediatric expertise closer to where our families live, said Bill Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital. “We’re happy to add East Liverpool as a valued partner to our more than 80 service locations.”
Boardman Doctor’s Fraud Conviction Second in Family

Dr. David Esarco pleaded guilty to Workers’ Compensation fraud for improper billing practices a year after his brother, Dr. John Esarco, was in court for similar offenses.
