DiRienzo Buys Huntington Woods Plaza
Thursday, December 20, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Huntington Woods Plaza sold last week for $2.248 million, Edward J. Lewis Inc. reports.
Built in 1985, the strip plaza, located at 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road, was purchased by1393 Properties Ltd., said Jim Grantz, broker associate with Lewis. The company is owned by Henry DiRienzo of H. DiRienzo Properties Ltd., Boardman.
“The buyer saw this property as an excellent redevelopment opportunity,” Grantz said.
Travel Bank Exceeds Goal, Extends Deadline
Thursday, December 20, 2012VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport exceeded the $5 million goal set for its Travel Bank – Air Service Initiative, gathering $5.3 million in nonbinding pledges, and has extended the deadline to Jan. 15.
A total of 195 businesses, organizations and individuals have made the nonbinding pledges to use the airport if regularly scheduled daily service were restored, according to Dan Dickten, aviation director. The pledges attempt to quantify what each entity will spend annually on new service should it be initiated at the airport.

At its annual meeting Tuesday, the president and CEO of UCFC, holding company of Home Savings and Loan Co., compared his bank to an airplane that had suffered damage from a rough landing. Rather than scrap the plane, it made more sense to repair it and prepare to fly again, Patrick W. Bevack told shareholders.

Northern States Metals Acquires Assets of Solar Tracker
Wednesday, December 19, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Northern States Metals announced Tuesday that it has completed its previously announced offer to acquire the noncash assets of the Solar Tracker business of Opel Technologies Inc. Terms were not disclosed.
Northern States is the developer and manufacturer of the Solar FlexRack, a best-selling patented, pre-assembled photovoltaic mounting system that is the only fully assembled solar racking system available.
Holiday Travel to Rise 1.5%, AAA Forecasts
Wednesday, December 19, 2012HEATHROW, Fla. -- AAA expects 93.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holidays, a 1.6% increase over a year ago. In the East North Central region, which includes Ohio, year-end holiday travelers are expected to total 14.8 million, an increase of 1.3% from last year.
This year’s expected travel volume is the second-highest in the past decade, officials said. AAA defines the year-end holiday travel season as Dec. 22 to Jan. 1. More than one in four Americans is expected to take a trip this season.
Farmers Bank Supports Beatitude House Children
Wednesday, December 19, 2012CANFIELD, Ohio -- Employees of Farmers National Bank have purchased and delivered gifts for 50 children who live in the Beatitude House in Youngstown and three who live at the Beatitude House in Warren, the president and CEO of Farmers, John S. Gulas, announced Tuesday.
Farmers has been donating gifts to the Beatitude House several years, he noted.
“Everyone at Farmers hopes this project will lift the spirits of the good people doing important work at Beatitude house and make Christmas merrier for the mothers and children in the program’s care,” Gulas said.
