Herren is a former Boston Celtics guard and founder of Hoop Dreams, a basketball player development company.
PNC to Fund Financial Services Innovation Center
Thursday, January 24, 2013PITTSBURGH -- The PNC Financial Services Group, holding company of PNC Bank, will create the PNC Center for Financial Services Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University, the company announced Wednesday.
Initially, the center will focus on research and education pertaining to the retail banking sector, seeking to capitalize on new technologies and the effective use of data to improve how well banks function and the services they offer customers, PNC said.
Valley's 2012 Home Sales, Average Prices Show Gains
Wednesday, January 23, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Despite declines in the number of homes sold in December in two of three area counties, local home sales for all of 2012 ended on a high note, with average sale prices rising and total home sales for the year up, according to newly released data from the Youngstown/Columbiana Association of Realtors and the Warren Area Board of Realtors.
2012 Home Sales in Ohio Jump 12.7%

Year-end sales of new and existing homes January through December were 114,457 units compared with 101,561 for 2011.

Unemployment Up in December, Lower than 2011
Wednesday, January 23, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Unemployment rates edged upward in the Mahoning Valley region last month, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in Columbus reported Tuesday.
In December, the unemployment rate was 8.0% in Trumbull County, 7.3% in Mahoning County and 7.6% in Columbiana County. That compares to 7.7% in Trumbull County during November, 6.9% in Mahoning County and 7.4% in Columbiana County.
Gulfport Energy Reports New Utica Results
Wednesday, January 23, 2013OKLAHOMA CITY – Gulfport Energy Corp. announced Tuesday the results from two horizontal wells recently drilled in Ohio's Belmont and Harrison counties.
Gulfport's Stutzman 1-14H well in Belmont County tested at a sustained four-hour peak rate of 21 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and 945 barrels a day of natural-gas liquids, or 4,060 barrels of oil equivalent per day, the company said.
The Stutzman well was drilled at a vertical depth of 9,020 feet and an 8,634-foot horizontal lateral, one of the longest drilled to date in the Utica.
