“These kids can come out of high school and earn $30,000 to $40,000 a year,” reports Hughes, who has taught welding 10 years at the Columbiana County Career & Technical Center in Lisbon.

Some 32% reported that top performers left their organizations last year and 39% are concerned that they'll lose top talent in 2013. There may be cause for concern; while 66% of workers said they are generally satisfied with their jobs, 25% said they will change jobs in 2013 or 2014.
Timken Reports Sales Down, Net Income Up for 2012
Friday, January 25, 2013CANTON, Ohio -- The Timken Co. has reported sales of $5 billion for 2012, a decrease of 4% from the year before. Net income of $495.5 million, or $5.07 per diluted share, compares with $454.3 million, or $4.59 per diluted share, in 2011.
The sales decline reflects lower demand from the light vehicle, heavy truck, industrial machinery, and oil and gas sectors in the second half of the year as well as lower surcharges and the impact of foreign currency also contributed to the decrease in sales.
Texas Company Brings Frack Sand to Columbiana
Thursday, January 24, 2013COLUMBIANA, Ohio -- Two tanker trucks arrive at the Buckeye Transfer Realty property for their haul: some 23 tons each of white frac sand, or proppants, used for hydraulic fracturing. After just 15 minutes, the first truck is already en route to deliver its load to a nearby well in the Utica Shale.
This is the latest venture for Buckeye Transfer, managing the transloading operations for Santrol, a Sugar Land, Texas-based producer of proppant materials for the oil and gas industries. Santrol’s parent company, Fairmount Minerals, is based in Chardon, Ohio.
FNB Corp. Reports 4th-Quarter, 2012 Income
Thursday, January 24, 2013HERMITAGE, Pa. – F.N.B. Corp., holding company of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $28.96 million, or 21 cents per diluted share, and full-year 2012 net income of $110.41 million, or 79 cents a share.
Adjusted income for the quarter was 23 cents per share, F.N.B. said, because of litigation settlement costs of $2 million (after-tax) and branch consolidation expense of $1.2 million (after-tax), which reduced earnings 2 cents a share.
