Fed Official to Keynote Chamber Forecast Breakfast

BWC Names Business Development Manager

Law Firm Introduces Mobile App
Thursday, January 17, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio – Individuals who have been in an automobile accident or arrested for driving under the influence or another crime can now access their smartphone for information on what to do, using a new mobile application unveiled Wednesday.
David Betras, senior partner with Betras, Kopp & Harshman LLC, introduced the app for iPhone and Droid at the firm’s offices here. Betras says his firm is the first in Ohio to offer such and app, a;though he has seen similar ones being used in California.
UCFC Seeks to Raise $47 Million in New Capital
Wednesday, January 16, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., announced Tuesday it seeks to raise some $47 million in capital through a private offering and a rights offering.
It must first obtain the approval of the Federal Reserve System, then its shareholders, before it can issue stock to raise the capital, chief financial officer James R. Reske said. The company hopes to achieve its goals by the end of the first quarter.
Roman Realty Merges with Northwood Realty Services
Wednesday, January 16, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio – Roman Realty LTD., a three-generation family business based here, has merged with Northwood Realty Services of Pittsburgh, Northwood announced Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.
As a result of the merger, real estate brokers George Roman III and Chris Roman will join Northwood, along with agents Debra Roman, Ronald Roman and Breanna and Patrick Fitzgerald, and Lisa Ogden. Roman Realty’s office at 22 W. Main St. now becomes Northwood’s newest office in eastern Ohio.
New Drilling Permits for Columbiana, Mercer Counties
Wednesday, January 16, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Seventeen new horizontal drilling permits were issued last week by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, including one for a new oil and gas well in Columbiana County, records show.
ODNR awarded Houston-based Hilcorp Energy a permit Jan. 8 to drill in Salem Township at the Grubbs property. It is the company's first well permit in Columbiana County and the 62nd permit to be issued in that county.
Hilcorp has permits in Mahoning County, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in western Pennsylvania.

Home Prices Rise 7.2% in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman
Wednesday, January 16, 2013IRVINE, Calif. -- Home prices in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area were 7.2% higher in November 2012 compared to November 2011, according to the CoreLogic Home Price Index.
On a month-over-month basis, home prices, including distressed sales, fell 0.3% in November compared to October 2012.
The figures include distressed sales.
Brown to Address Wrongful Foreclosures
Wednesday, January 16, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – More than 4,000 people in the Mahoning Valley could see some degree of restitution under an agreement reached last week between the federal government and 10 lenders charged with unlawfully foreclosing on homes across the country.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will host a press event here today to address the agreement that requires banks to pay $8.5 billion to settle the charges.
The senator will hold a press conference in the offices of Community Legal Aid, in the First National Tower downtown, at 11:30 a.m.
