Lordstown Gets Ready for Launch of Diesel Cruze
Friday, April 19, 2013LORDSTOWN, Ohio – General Motors Co.'s Lordstown Complex Thursday unveiled one of the first diesel models of the Chevrolet Cruze scheduled for sale in June, a vehicle that GM officials believe will set the bar for nonhybrid passenger cars.
"You can drive from Chicago to Atlanta on one tank of fuel," remarked Gary Altman, GM North America's chief engineer for small and compact cars.

Friday, April 19, 2013LORDSTOWN, Ohio – General Motors Co.'s Lordstown East Plant saw its share of warm hearts and warm stomachs Thursday as employees there purchased chicken lunches to raise money for the March of Dimes.
GM spokesman Tom Mock said the March of Dimes and the United Way are two of the major charities for which the plant raises money every year. "We do a lot," he said, emphasizing the collaboration between the plant and its two unions, locals 1112 and 1714 of the United Auto Workers.
Resch Foundation Makes Grant of $185,000 to YSU
Friday, April 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Marion G. Resch Foundation made a grant of $185,000 to Youngstown State University Thursday, bringing its philanthropy to more than $2 million since it began funding YSU scholarships in 2003.
The executive director of the foundation, Brian Wolf, saluted the Farmers Trust Co. and its president and CEO, James H. Sisek, for its stewardship of foundation funds that made the grant possible.

Quinnipiac Poll Finds Kasich in Good Shape for 2014

John Kasich leads likely Democratic challengers in an early look at the 2014 governor’s race, 46% to 37% over Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald and 45% to 38% percent over U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray, according to a newly released Quinnipiac University poll.
The Republican governor’s margins remain virtually unchanged from the results of a Feb. 28 survey by the independent Quinnipiac University.

ThyssenKrupp to Add Youngstown Hub

The opening of the new Ohio hubs, which will serve as the logistics centers for delivery service to local customers, coincides with the company’s nationwide system to provide better, cost-effective service to customers, the company said.

Shell, Chesapeake Secure More Well Drilling Permits
Thursday, April 18, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Shell Western E&P Inc., or SWEPI, a division of Royal Dutch Shell, has secured a new permit to drill in Lawrence County, Pa., according to records from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
SWEPI received a permit April 12 to drill a vertical well for unconventional gas exploration at the Twentier property in Perry Township, public records show. Often a vertical permit is followed by a horizontal permit to tap into unconventional shale formations such as the Utica.
