The highlights of the evening were the presentations of the Athena Young Professional Leadership Award to Marci Radcliffe of Hermitage and the Athena Leadership Award to JoAnn McBride of New Castle.

Alliance Works for Fuller Recovery of Downtown

City Plans Greenspace at Front of Paramount Site
Wednesday, April 24, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city Design Review Committee approved a 20-foot landscaped setback Tuesday for the site of the soon-to-be-demolished Paramount Theater, and is considering other aesthetic elements for the site.
Demolition of the decaying structure, which has been largely vacant for more than 30 years, is due to begin next month. In late March the city approved a $721,000 contract with Baumann Enterprises Inc., Cleveland, for demolition and abatement work at the West Federal Street site.
F.N.B. Reports Record First-Quarter Net Income
Wednesday, April 24, 2013HERMITAGE, Pa. – F.N.B. Corp., parent of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, reported net income Tuesday of $28.54 million, or 20 cents per share, for the quarter ended March 31. This is a first-quarter record for F.N.B., it said, and a 5% increase in adjusted earnings per diluted share compared to the same quarter in 2012.
By comparison, F.N.B. reported net income of $28.96 million, or 21 cents a share, the last quarter of 2012 and first-quarter 2012 net income of $21.58 million, or 16 cents a share.
Employment Situation Continues to Improve in Valley

Bombing Suspect Purchased Fireworks from Phantom
Tuesday, April 23, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Wall Street Journal reported moments ago that Tamerian Tsarnaev, the suspected Boston Marathon bomber who died in the police shootout, purchased “two large pyrotechnic devices in February” from the Seabrook, N.H., Phantom Fireworks store.
The newspaper quotes William Weimer, vice president of Phantom Fireworks and general counsel for its Youngstown-based parent company, B.J. Alan Co., as saying the explosive powder contained in the fireworks would not have been sufficient to trigger the bombs.
Company Develops Vehicle for NASA Launch System

Industry Groups Tout Support for Pipeline, Drilling
Tuesday, April 23, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Chamber of Commerce is joining with Consumer Energy Alliance to call for approval of the transcontinental Keystone XL pipeline project, while another Ohio-based interest group is citingrecent polling by Quinnipiac University showing broad support for natural gas and oil drilling in Ohio.
The Ohio Chamber and CEA partnered to recruit 14,584 Ohio residents who petitioned the U.S. Department of State to approve construction of the pipeline because of the jobs, energy and economic security generated by the project.
