Sales Growth at Fastest Pace in Year, NABE Says
Monday, April 22, 2013WASHINGTON -- The growth of sales during the first quarter was the fastest in a year, the National Association for Business Economics finds in a report released today, and the association expects growth to continue this quarter.
Fifty-eight members of the association of business economists responded to a survey conducted between March 19 and April 2. For the most part they reported that sales at their firms rose during the first quarter, gains in profit margins and capital spending increased following slowdowns the fourth quarter of 2012, and the number employed holds steady.
Landfill Workers, Garbage Haulers Return to Work
Monday, April 22, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The strike by members of Teamsters Local 377 against Allied Waste/Republic Services ended Sunday, reports Doug Dunn, general manager of the company’s Youngstown division.
"We are pleased to announce that all of our employees will return to work this evening,” Dunn said in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “We appreciate the patience our customers demonstrated during the past week. Crews will work throughout the week to service all of our customers' waste and recycling needs."

Bankruptcy Hearing Averts Daily EPA Fines for D&L
Saturday, April 20, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – D&L Energy Inc. dodged $37,500-a-day in penalties Friday as a U.S. Bankruptcy Court ordered that a creditor of the company complete an environmental report it was commissioned to finish and submit it to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by Monday.
Judge Kay Woods approved a short-term agreement between D&L, EnviroScience Inc. and the U.S. Trustee's office that would pay EnviroScience $10,000 to finish the report and pay the company through post-petition administrative claims afterward.
Cyrogenic Processing Plant Takes Shape in Kensington

“We’re a little over halfway finished with the first phase,” reports Baron John, construction coordinator for the UEO Kensington project in Hanover Township in southern Columbiana County. “We’re keeping on schedule and want to commission sections of the plant so we can get gas flowing.”

"We drink the water from Meander Reservoir. We do not want fracking in our protected drinking water area," declared Lynn Anderson as she stood before one of two billboards that urge city residents to vote "yes" on the ballot initiative.
