Imports’ Share of Steel Market Falls in March
Thursday, April 24, 2014WASHINGTON -- The United States imported 3,219,000 net tons of steel in March, including 2,425,000 net tons of finished steel, research by the American Iron and Steel Institute found. These figures are down 2% and up 6.6%, respectively, compared with February data.
The AISI report is based on preliminary Census Bureau data.
Nicklaus, Sorenstam Help United Way Raise $250,000
Thursday, April 24, 2014POLAND, Ohio -- Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam are accustomed to setting records, and Wednesday evening was no exception as two of the greatest golfers of all time helped the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley raise $250,000 to fund children's and charitable programs.
The two golfing legends appeared on behalf of the United Way at The Lake Club during the most successful single fundraising event in the organization's history, hosted by club owners Ed and Chris Muransky, and the club's director of golf, Jerry McGee.
Farmers National Reports 1Q Net Income of $2.19M
Thursday, April 24, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., parent of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $2.19 million, or 12 cents per diluted and basic share.
This compares to fourth-quarter net income of $2.30 million, or 12 cents a share, and first-quarter 2013 income of $2.01 million, or 11 cents a share.
F.N.B. Corp. Reports Net Income of $32.2 Million
Thursday, April 24, 2014HERMITAGE, Pa. -- F.N.B. Corp., holding company of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, Wednesday reported first-quarter net income available to common shareholders of $32.20 million, or 20 cents per diluted and basic share.
This compares to $28.44 million the preceding quarter, or 18 cents a share, and $28.54 million the first quarter a year ago, or 20 cents a share.
Net income for the three periods was $34.52 million, $28.44 million and $28.54 million respectively.

Activists Raise Concerns about Handling of Radioactive Waste
Thursday, April 24, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Residents here have lodged an appeal with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, asking that the agency revoke a permit they say would allow a local operation to process radioactive waste.
"We need to have local control over what goes on in our communities and neighborhoods," said Susie Beiersdorfer, a member of Frack Free Mahoning. "We cannot let the Ohio Department of Natural Resources bureaucrats in Columbus make public health and safety decisions for our local community."

Dickten Sends Survey to United, Says Goal is Near
Thursday, April 24, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- United Airlines officials are expected to make a decision in the next couple of months regarding whether to establish service from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport to its hub at Chicago-O’Hare International Airport.
Dan Dickten, director of aviation at the regional airport, told members of the Western Reserve Port Authority’s board of directors Wednesday that results of the recent survey to determine interest in establishing daily passenger service was being submitted yesterday to United. “The survey responses were very favorable,” he said.
Advocacy Group Quantifies Impact of Homegrown Fuels
Wednesday, April 23, 2014WASHINGTON -- The Fuels America coalition today released an economic impact study that the advocacy group says shows the “far-reaching benefits of renewable fuels for Ohio workers and businesses.”
Renewable fuels now represent nearly 10% of America’s fuel supply and have helped reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil to the lowest level in years, according to the study.
Help Hotline Fundraising Campaign Sets $35,000 Goal
Wednesday, April 23, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. kicks off its third annual fundraising campaign May 1 with a goal of raising $35,000.
Help Hotline has served the community for 43 years, and in 2013 answered 202,425 calls. The nonprofit agency employs 54 and a team of volunteers.
