Record Earnings at First National Bancshares
Friday, July 18, 2014ORRVILLE, OHIO -- First National Bancshares Corp., parent of First National Bank of Orrville, reports second-quarter net income of $1.427 million, or 64 cents per basic share and 63 cents per diluted share, the highest quarterly earnings in the history of the company.
In the second quarter of 2013, First National reported net income of $1.108 million, or 46 cents per basic and diluted share.
For the quarter ended March 31, First National reported net income of $1.24 million, or 56 cents per basic and 55 cents per diluted share.
Youngstown Approves $50K to Aid SalesKatz Expansion
Friday, July 18, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A $50,000 performance grant to help SalesKatz Inc. expand and add staff was approved Thursday by the city’s board of control.
SalesKatz, formerly based in Cleveland, moved into the Youngstown Business incubator last year. The company develops customer relationship management software. “It’s something that a lot of businesses are going to,” said Tom DeAngelo, city economic development coordinator. “It assists salespersons when they’re trying to look up leads in a database, and filters them out according to specific parameters that they’re looking for.”

Back-to-School Spending to Reach $74.9B
Friday, July 18, 2014WASHINGTON -- Driven by increased demand for electronic items and parents’ need to restock their children’s school supplies from last year, families this summer will spend slightly more on back-to-school items than last year, the National Retail Federation projects.
The average family with children in grades K-12 will spend $669.28 on apparel, shoes, supplies and electronics, up 5% from last year.
Ryan Unveils 'Youngstown Maker City Initiative'

Y-town Vodka Draws More Customers, Distributor
Thursday, July 17, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Y-town vodka, distilled and bottled in Boardman, has won national recognition for its quality and the design and labels on its bottles.
The American Distilling Institute in California awarded Y-town its award for “Best of Category, Craft Spirit” and a gold medal last spring.
The outlet where it was first offered for sale in January, Chalet Premier in North Lima, reports good sales as customers return to buy more.
BP Seeks Permits to Plug Trumbull Utica Wells
Thursday, July 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- BP America, which announced in April it would pull up stakes in the Utica and place its leasehold acres up for sale in Trumbull and Mahoning counties (READ STORY), received a permit last week to plug and abandon its Jewett 1H well in Johnston Township in Trumbull County, according to data from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Lems Shoes Reshapes Footwear, Online Sales

Along the back wall of Lems Shoes, the company in Farrell, Pa., that Rademacher founded in 2010, are three shelves filled with shoes both intact and halved.
The shelves are a testament to the six years of research that Rademacher has spent to build a better shoe.

7,660 New Ohio Businesses File in June
Thursday, July 17, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 7,660 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in June. These numbers compare to June 2013, when 7,185 new entities filed with the office of secretary of state.
From January through June, the office has processed 49,254 new business filings, up from the 47,918 filings the same period last year.
During 2012 and 2013, the state saw a record-setting number of new businesses file with 88,068 and 89,735 new companies respectively filing, reported Jon Husted, secretary of state.
