Kennedy’s declaration that America would reach the moon in a decade, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson said Monday.
America landed the first astronauts on the moon within seven years, sooner than the 10 years Kennedy promised, “because he engaged every fabric of our society,” Johnson, R-6 Ohio, said as he spoke to the audience of assembled seniors at the Austintown Senior Center.

Hiring Event Seeks to Fill Oil, Warehouse Positions
Tuesday, August 07, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio – Stephen Wegendt of Youngstown came to the Mahoning County One Stop office here seeking work at a nursing home. Instead, he wound up being recruited by Macy’s to apply for one of the openings at the retail giant’s North Jackson distribution center.
“They’re looking for warehouse receivers,” Wegendt said Monday. He described his current employment situation as “tenuous,” and not a permanent position. “You can find cash jobs in the area but mostly finding work that you would enjoy, that you could stick with, is what’s difficult in the area,” he said.
Students’ 'Mytown' Photo Exhibit Opens at McDonough

“Mytown: Understanding how place matters to local youth, a photo project” opens with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday at the museum on Wick Avenue.
Annual United Way Day of Caring Takes Place Sept. 7

The Day of Caring, sponsored by Covelli Enterprises of Warren, is seeking volunteers.
The event is “a communitywide day of hands-on volunteering,” said Tara Mady, director of marketing and communications. Employees of companies in the Valley participate by completing tasks, odd jobs, and organizing activities for nonprofit organizations.

Ohio Gas Prices Rise 29.4 Cents
Monday, August 06, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ohio motorists are feeling more pain at the pump than across the country, with average retail gasoline prices in the state rising 29.4 cents per gallon over the past week, OhioGasPrices.com reported today. The state average was $3.85 per gallon Sunday, compared to the national average of $3.60 per gallon, up 9.3 cents per gallon in the last week, the website reported.
