Staff Right Services to Host Job Fair Monday
Friday, August 03, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Staff Right Services will host a job fair to fill positions for several employers at the Mahoning County One Stop office here Monday.
Applications will be accepted for positions in the steel, oil and gas industries.
The job fair is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon and is the result of a recent increase in job openings by Staff Right clients. Compensation for these temporary and temporary-to-hire jobs, based on the applicant’s experience, range from $8 to $14 an hour.
Surprising Many, Miller-Holzwarth Closes Its Doors
Thursday, August 02, 2012SALEM, Ohio -- After 35 years, Miller-Holzwarth Inc., a manufacturer of vision equipment for combat vehicles, has shut its plant at 450 W. Pershing St.
On Monday, employees were notified that the plant would close at the end of the business day. Phone calls to the company's office Tuesday evening were not returned, but a former employee who asked not to be identified confirmed the closing, saying it wouldn't be official until Friday.
On Chick-fil-A Day, Lines Extend Outside Restaurant
Thursday, August 02, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Chick-fil-A on U.S. 224 just east of South Avenue was so full at the dinner hour Wednesday that a marshal from the township fire department warned the owner/manager, Gail McCullough, that he would have to delay the admission of more customers.
The customers outside both the eastern and western entrances stood patiently, and with good humor, under a hot sun.
Rex Issued Its First Permit in Lawrence County, Pa.
Thursday, August 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rex Energy Inc. has been awarded a permit to drill its first horizontal well in Lawrence County, Pa.
Rex Energy, active in Carroll County in eastern Ohio, was awarded a permit to drill a horizontal well in Perry Township, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection records say.
The well is to be drilled on the Hufnagel property; the permit was issued July 27.
GM's Sales Slip 6%; Chrysler, Toyota Up
Thursday, August 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of General Motors Co.'s new vehicles fell 6.4% in July versus the same period last year, largely because of reduced demand for fleet vehicles, the company reported Wednesday.
Fort Motor Co. also reported lower sales – down 4% -- for the month of July based on lackluster fleet deliveries, the company said.
But, Chrysler Group LLC, Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. all posted gains for the month, as the Japanese auto industry regained its strength after a devastating earthquake disrupted supply last year.

Online Labor Demand Drops in Ohio, Nationwide
Thursday, August 02, 2012NEW YORK -- Online advertised vacancies fell 153,600 in July to 4,793,500, according to The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series. In the Midwest, where online labor demand dropped by 42,200, Ohio experienced the largest decline at 9,300.
The overall drop follows a strong gain of 232,000 in June.
