Early Voting Begins Today Across Ohio
Tuesday, October 02, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – Early voting in Ohio begins today, and more than 920,000 vote-by-mail requests have been received by county boards of elections statewide, which will begin sending ballots to eligible voters who have requested them starting today, reports Ohio's secretary of state, Jon Husted.

Grand Opening Wednesday at Park Inn by Radisson
Tuesday, October 02, 2012WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be Wednesday at the Park Inn by Radisson here. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Park Inn by Radisson is ilocated near the Ohio state line, directly off I-80 at exit 4B. The hotel’s amenities include in-room spa tubs, a heated indoor pool and an exercise room. In June, the hotel completed a renovation of all guest rooms and public areas, officials said.
Meeting rooms provide space for up to 400 guests. A restaurant and full-service bar is on the premises as well.
Valley Red Cross Chapter Seeks Volunteers
Tuesday, October 02, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley needs volunteers. A open house and information session is scheduled for Oct. 5 at the office on Mahoning Avenue here.
Volunteers are needed for local, regional and national work, said Karen E. Conklin, executive director. "We are offering two information sessions to learn more about our local disaster action team, our service to armed forces and other volunteer opportunities," she noted.
All Red Cross disaster training is free, she added.
Events Planned to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Poll Finds More Support for Hydraulic Fracturing
Monday, October 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Public opposition to the use of hydraulic fracturing in drilling for natural gas appears to be decreasing, according to a newly released Bloomberg National Poll.
The poll found 56% of Americans believe there should be more regulation of fracking, a decline from the 65% who wanted more regulations when the poll asked the same question in March.
Meantime, the number of poll respondents who think less regulation should be improsed on fracking rose to 29%, up from 18% in March.
Ohio's Minimum Wage Increases to $7.85 Jan. 1
Monday, October 01, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase on Jan. 1 to $7.85 per hour for non-tipped employees and to $3.93 per hour for tipped employees, the Ohio Department of Commerce is reminding employers. That a 15-cent increase from the 2012 minimum wage of $7.70 and 8 cents more tipper employees.
The higher minimum wage will apply to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts of more than $288,000. By comparison, the 2011 threshhold was annual gross receipts of more than $283,000.

An employee since 2004 at the General Motors Co. Lordstown Complex where she works in the trim department on the door line, Lapushansky works out 40 minutes per day – 20 minutes during lunch as well as during 10-minute breaks – at the onsite fitness center in the plant.
